Ballet Success
Year 7 student Beth Kolind has been rather busy recently. Last month Beth underwent an audition process at the London Children's Ballet, which lasted three rounds. A total of 450 took part and 48 were chosen to form four elite touring companies, directed by teachers at the London Children’s Ballet and the Royal Ballet School.
"I am really excited, but nervous – I have butterflys in my stomach! Travelling around London with the touring companies will be great. I'll get to meet loads of people and perform to children with disabilities."
Outside of school, Beth's biggest passion is ballet and dance – she has been dancing since she was just three years old. She says: "I still have my very first pink leotard and T-shirt!"
Next month Beth will be performing with LCB in Little Lord Fauntleroy in February across Greater London.
Not only has the 11 year old's dancing career been on point in the country's capital, Beth attended another audition for the English Youth Ballet, this time in front of a live audience!
The task was to perform full length classical ballets with professional principal dancers performing alongside talented young dancers.
Beth says she would like a career in ballet but also really likes the idea of becoming a chemist or an architect. "As dance careers are short-lived, I feel like I need something else to fall back on. Both architecture and chemistry are very difficult subjects, but there are lots of jobs out there to motivate me."
Beth has been awarded a scholarship from EYB to perform in Ballet Etudes and Nutcracker Suite in April in Salisbury.
We’ve also just heard that Beth passed her grade 4 LCM Music Theatre (vocal and performance) which she took in December with Distinction and 93%.
