At Sidcot Junior School, we believe every child is unique. That's why we offer a tailored teaching approach that goes beyond simply following a curriculum. Our small class sizes, combined with a commitment to a nurturing and child-led environment, ensures your child receives the individual attention they deserve.
What does tailored teaching look like at Sidcot?
- Understanding Your Child: We take the time to get to know each student's strengths, interests, and preferred learning styles. This allows us to create a personalized learning experience that fosters their individual talents.
- Nurturing Curiosity: Our teachers encourage exploration and discovery, sparking a lifelong love of learning in every child. This builds confidence and a sense of ownership in their educational journey.
- Celebrating Individuality: We believe in fostering a supportive environment where all voices are heard and celebrated. This allows children to thrive and develop their unique personalities.
Benefits of Tailored Teaching
- Deeper Understanding: Children are more engaged when learning aligns with their interests and learning styles, leading to a deeper grasp of concepts.
- Increased Confidence: A focus on individual strengths empowers children to take ownership of their learning and build confidence in their abilities.
- Lifelong Learners: By fostering curiosity and a love of learning, we prepare our students to become successful lifelong learners.
Academic Enrichment
In the Junior School, we celebrate every one of our students for their unique strengths and talents. We believe that all children, regardless of whether they receive learning support or have special educational needs (SEN), have the potential to excel and thrive. Every child can be a Gifted and Talented student in an area that speaks to their individual abilities, whether it's in academics, the arts, sports, or other interests. We are committed to nurturing and encouraging each child's potential, ensuring they have the opportunity to shine and develop in their own special way.
Pupils at Sidcot Junior School complete assessments three times a year, and their progress is carefully tracked. This ensures that children at all levels are monitored and supported to make meaningful progress. The data gathered from these assessments helps to identify children as Gifted and Talented, allowing their class teachers to design tailored learning, providing appropriate stretch and challenge.
In Year 5, in addition to Gifted and Talented students, we also recognise Lead Learners. These are children who demonstrate particular aptitude in a specific area of learning. Lead Learners receive regular support and guidance from the subject lead in their area of strength.
