Concert for Music Scholars

Concert for Music Scholars

Wednesday 1 February

Last Wednesday saw the first of our annual concerts for Music Scholars.

The concert opened with two violin pieces confidently executed by 7-year old Amarah Rowntree, our youngest scholar. Lillian Arnold, also a violinist, followed performing an exciting Gypsy Dance. Then came our two vocal scholars, Toby Pratt and Ruby Cogan with a joyous Zip-a-dee-doo-dah and a heartfelt Feed the Birds respectively.

Ella Lindsay gave a beautiful performance of Somewhere over the Rainbow at the piano after which our cornet-player, Laurence Badman, changed the mood with his relaxed performance of A Nightingale sang in Berkley Square.

The concert was rounded off by Sarah Stanley performing Paul Hindemith's demanding clarinet piece, Lebhaft, and her emotional vocal rendition of With You, from the musical Ghost.

The concert was very well received by a small but enthusiastic audience. All our scholars performed well and should be commended on their courage and determination. I look forward to working further with them as their musical skills develop and mature.
