This term, on Saturday 15 June, we were delighted to host our bi-annual Festival of Peace which, despite the slightly overcast weather, was as popular as ever!
The Sidcot Festival of Peace is our community festival, made up of music, speakers, performances and more, and often themed around one of our core Quaker values. This year's Festival centred on Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity, with the strapline, 'Let Us Listen To The Other Side', translated from the Greek, 'Audiatur et altera pars', a phrase chosen by our Afro-Caribbean Society.
Thank you to our Equality Office Holders for contributing to the logo design. Our sincere thanks also to the George Cadbury Trust and the Ganton Educational Trust for supporting this year's Festival of Peace. Of course, the whole day would not have been possible without the hard work of Sidcot staff, students, and our valued guests who provided entertainment throughout the day! Thank you all for coming along and creating another amazing Festival of Peace.
From those who attended, here are just a few glowing reviews of the day:
A huge thank you to your School and the team that put the Festival of Peace together. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed every part of it. There was such a welcoming and gentle feel to this day, which really appealed to my son who was a little nervous to attend. Well done to the girls on the tie dying stall also, who were managing a very popular stall... My son and daughter love their t-shirts, the girls did an amazing job.
I want to say thank you for all your hard work and thoughtfulness in providing a creative and thought provoking Peace Festival for all ages on Saturday. You had the courage to "live adventurously" and overcame a number of challenges, especially the weather. I especially appreciated the opportunity to hear a variety of speakers with very varied life experience and presentation styles. More conversations and learning will continue, I hope.
On arrival to Sidcot School we were greeted with friendly and very helpful volunteers. The grounds were beautiful and the festival was very well laid out. I was allocated a lovely yurt to deliver my treatments from. It was spacious and perfectly placed in the grounds. Thank you Sidcot School for the opportunity to work with you. Looking forward to the next time!
A thoroughly enjoyable Festival! The friendly and vibrant atmosphere took me back to my Sidcot days (1988 leaver). It was a joy to connect with old friends, meet people, generally soak up the entertainment and indulge in wellbeing practices (breathwork, yoga, and meditation). Tasty food options and refreshing cups of tea! Particularly enjoyed the insightful talks. Thank you to all who made this happen; we can’t wait to come back next year.
