A Level Results
Sidcot students celebrated another successful year of exam results at A Level and in the International Baccalaureate with record numbers of students gaining a place at university.
At A Level, in a year which saw significant changes, Sidcot students recorded 34.0% A* to A grades and 80.7% A* to C, with 11 students achieving 3 A grades or above.
Last month’s IB Diploma results were also impressive with one student, Elizaveta Shavandina from Moscow, scoring 39 points, the equivalent of more than 4 A*s at A level.
95% of those that applied were successful in gaining a place at university with 3% taking a planned gap year. Of those going to university 86% secured places at their first choice institution with 54% due to attend one of the top Russell Group universities including Oxford, Bristol, Exeter, Birmingham, York and Imperial College.
Caroline Green (18) from Warminster achieved a stunning 3 A* which was enough to secure her place at Oxford University to read Biological Sciences. Caroline who would normally be milking cows at 4.30am treated herself to a lie-in until the results were released at 6.30am. Caroline said: “I was delighted with my grades and especially pleased that all my friends have done so well.”
This year’s Head Boy Alexander Andersson (18) from Flax Bourton secured 2 A* and 2 A grades to take him to Manchester University to read Physics. Alex will attend lectures delivered by preeminent physicist Professor Brian Cox and is “looking forward to working alongside Nobel prize winners and using some of the best facilities in the country.”
Peter Jackson (18) from Winscombe will be following in the footsteps of ex-Sidcot student Zoë Wanamaker by attending London’s Central School of Speech and Drama to study Applied Theatre and Education. Peter said: “I feel so lucky to be attending such a prestigious Drama School.”
Zantore Buoy (18) from Chew Magna, will be pursuing his further education in America having achieved the grades he needed to secure a place at the prestigious Newhouse College of Communication in Syracruse New York, one of the top communications colleges in the USA.
Creative triplets, Barnaby, Charlotte and Molly Pittaway (18) from Dundry will begin courses in Film Production at the University of Winchester, Music at Cardiff University and Design for Theatre at The University for the Creative Arts respectively, having benefited from the School’s outstanding provision in the Arts.
Headmaster, Iain Kilpatrick, said: “This year’s results are a huge credit to the students’ hard work over the last two years. We’ve seen some fantastic grades and, as in previous years, Sidcot students will be taking up further studies at some impressive institutions in both the UK and further afield.”
“While these results provide a gateway for our students to further studies, at Sidcot we recognise that these grades are only one part of the jigsaw. Throughout a student’s time at Sidcot we put equal emphasis on the ‘soft skills’ that equip students for life after school as on the rigorous pursuit of academic achievement. We want to make sure that when a student leaves the school they are grounded, completely prepared for the life that lies ahead of them and prepared to make a full contribution to society.”
