The Majesty of Mozart

The Majesty of Mozart

On Friday evening, 15 January, I took the A Level and IB music girls to see The Majesty of Mozart conducted by Sir John Elliot Gardiner at Bristol Colston Hall. We were treated to a voyage through three symphonies: Symphony No:39, Symphony No:40 and Symphony No:41 (Jupiter). The conductor explained the symphonies and played excerpts so the audience could pick out the various motifs. The symphonies were performed by The Orchestra Revolutionnarie et Romantique and played every bit as sophisticated and formidable as its name.

"As an orchestral player myself, I was particularly impressed to see the whole of the string section standing throughout the whole performance. I paid particular attention to the double basses as I’ve never seen such virtuosic playing!" – Charlotte Pittaway, A Level Music Student

"The first time at the Colston Hall and to see a classical orchestra and I was spell-bound right from the minute the conductor walked on to the stage!" – Valentina Christiani, IB Music Student

The next concert will be The Oslo Philharmonic playing Grieg, Sibeilius and Mahler!
