New York Trip 2018
We have just returned from a fabulous week in New York City. The focus of the trip was Art, and there was Art aplenty, with visits to the Moma, the Met, the Whitney, the Guggenhiem, the International Centre of Photography and the New Art Gallery… But also lots of sight seeing, including the Staten Island ferry past the Statue of Liberty, a trip to the top of the Empire State Building, a walk along Brooklyn Heights and across Brooklyn Bridge, a walk through Central Park and another along the high Line, and a tour of the Grand Central Terminal. We also visited a Jazz club for an evening of jazz, and of course there was a lot of shopping. At the start of the week students were buddied up with partners from the Brooklyn Friend’s School, and spent the morning with them, going around their lessons. We had breakfast and Lunch in the school, and on the following day staff and students from the Brooklyn Friend’s School joined us in a visit to the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art). Each evening we ate at a famous New York eatery, including the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Hard Rock Café, and Ellen’s Stardust Diner, where broadway wannabes sing as they wait. A highlight towards the end of the week was a visit to the Chelsea Market, and a look around Greenwich Village, sitting in Washington park, where the blacklisted folksingers used to hand out – no more – some of the most expensive real estate in the world these days. A fantastic week, enjoyed by all, and hopefully plenty of fuel for coursework and exam portfolios.
