Rotary Young Musician Competition - Local Heats

Rotary Young Musician Competition – Local Heats

On Friday 24 February, four of our talented musicians took part in the local heats of the annual Rotary Young Musician Competition.

In the under 13 category, Ella Hicks-Hurley (flute) and Ruby Owen (piano) both gave strong performances and despite not quite qualifying for the next round have not been put off competing and have said they would like to have another go next year.

In the 13+ category, Sidcot was represented by Hannah Peters (violin) and Jade Lawrence (soprano). Hannah was awarded second place in this category, winning herself £35, for her exciting and emotional performances of pieces by Brahms and Hess, whilst Jade evoked tears with her beautiful interpretation of The Lord's Prayer.

Finally the judges' decision was that both Hannah and Jade would proceed to the District Round (Somerset and Dorset) which will take place on Sunday 5th March, meaning Sidcot claimed two of the three available places.

I am extremely proud of our four students. They should be commended not only for their excellent performances but also for their courage. Having 100+ pairs of eyes scrutinising your every move is no easy thing.

This was Sidcot's first foray into our local Rotary competitions. I intend this to become an annual event for us.
