Senior School Swimming Gala 2016
Wednesday 10 February
The afternoon was exciting and noisy and the friendly yet competitive nature of the event was super. It was fabulous to witness the vast improvements that many of our swimmers have made over the course of the year. There were many close contests across the range of events and age groups. It was also great to see our top swimmers in action and to celebrate their successes.
Eight records were broken – it is always impressive to see records taken as they have been being set for more than 20 years in this pool. Those broken were by: Freya King (Junior Girls Front Crawl), Imogen Moroney (Inter Girls Individual Medley and Back Crawl), Jasmine Moroney (Senior Girls Front and Backcrawl) and Ben Bradley-Wilson (Junior Boys Fly, Front Crawl, Breaststroke and Individual Medley).
The individual trophies, not surprisingly in some cases given the list above, were awarded to Freya King, Ben Bradley-Wilson, Imogen Moroney, James King, Jasmine Moroney and Savva Malinin. Very well done to them all.
As to the shield – it was all very close with three Houses within 12 points of each other. A very close finish indeed. The trophy was lifted, however, by the captains of East.
I would like to thank all the officials, team captains (whose tasks were not always easy), competitors and, of course, all spectators who so happily supported throughout the afternoon and who always enhance the atmosphere of our gala.
