Sidcot Festival of Peace: The Nature of Identity

Sidcot Festival of Peace: The Nature of Identity

Sunday 19 June 12 noon to 5pm

At the height of festival season we are extremely proud to be launching our first Festival of Peace this coming weekend, entitled ‘The Nature of Identity’, being held on Sunday 19 June 2016 from 12 noon.

Held in Refugee Week, and taking place on Father’s Day, the Festival of Peace will celebrate family and community, exploring ideas about identity, belonging, and our place in the world.

The Festival promises an afternoon of drama, art, music, dance and a stirring mix of leading edge speakers including zoologist, presenter and natural history writer Sanjida O’Connell, acclaimed poet Matt Harvey and spoken word artist Potent Whisperer all seeking to provoke reflection on the festival’s theme.

A unique ‘Human Library’ will provide the rare opportunity for visitors to actively engage with the stories of others such as surviving conflict, fighting for human rights, escaping from poverty and living with blindness.

Mark Edwards’s world acclaimed photographic exhibition WHOLE EARTH? will provide a powerful illuminating backdrop to the Festival of Peace on Sunday and a potent reminder that we can all be part of the solution for a more peaceful and sustainable world.

As the only school in the UK with a Centre for Peace and Global Studies, Sidcot is fast becoming the authority on peace education and its integration in the curriculum.

We look forward to welcoming parents, students, staff, governors and our many partners and associates to enjoy this special event.
