Sidcot Flying School
Last Saturday, this year's pilots in training got underway with their first flights of the Summer Term. Four students took to the controls of a Cessna 182 aircraft and learnt the basics of flying an aircraft. Andrew Sinclair from the Bristol and Wessex Aeroplane Club captained the flights. The students taxi from the gate to the runway and then take the plane into the air themselves. Once airborne they continue to fly the aircraft on a 30-minute route at 2,000 feet.
There were two flight routes this week: one over Portishead, out over the Bristol Channel, down the coast past Clevedon and then inland over Weston-super-Mare and over the School, before landing back at Bristol International Airport.
The second route took the students over Filton, Bath and then right over Cheddar Gorge and Axbridge before returning to base.
It is a real pleasure to see these students living adventurously and I have had news that one student plans to take his flying further in order to gain a full Private Pilot's Licence.
