Congratulations to Sidcot students, staff, and community who raised a whopping £30,000 for multiple charities in the academic year 2023/24.
Throughout the year, students across all age ranges have participated in exciting events to support charities, including Red Nose Day, Off The Record (OTR), The Little Princess Trust, and many more.
Sidcot has a long history of social responsibility, which serves as one of the key foundations of our ethos. Our mission statement also calls for students to ‘Live Adventurously’ - something that can be seen in the variety of events that have been participated in to raise money for amazing causes.
The school's annual Race for Life proved particularly successful, raising an impressive £3,191 for charities Somewhere To Go and Cancer Research UK. Students took on the 2km obstacle course challenge, while teachers graciously volunteered as targets for the sponge-throwing event. £1,245 of this amount was raised by the school walking club, the Sidcot Strollers, led by teachers Ms Leite and Ms Smilevich, who walked 100 miles in May to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
In other fitness fundraising activities, a team of twelve runners from Sidcot participated in the Bath Half Marathon. Led by team captain Ryan Pietersen and supported by Director of Sport Matt Lloyd, the group raised £3,296 for Off The Record (OTR), a Bristol-based mental health charity supporting young people. Meanwhile, younger students in Sidcot Junior School took part in the Clifton Triathlon, raising the largest single amount by far: a whopping £12,310 for Restless Development and the Grand Appeal.

Another inspiring fundraising effort came from Year 5 student Annabel, who donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their hair from cancer. Annabel raised a staggering £2,345 - 426% over her initial target goal. What an amazing result!

Our school community has shown incredible dedication to making a positive difference and raising vital funds for worthy causes while instilling the importance of social responsibility and empathy. I look forward to the many fundraising activities planned for the rest of this academic year and seeing what we can achieve together as a School in 2025."
