Last Sunday (16 June) it was my great delight to join Mr and Mrs Baldock, Jamie Baldock and Iain Kilpatrick as guests of the Sunday Quaker Meeting. The occasion was to unveil and present a table that was commissioned by the Meeting and designed and manufactured by Jamie as part of his Advanced Level Product Design course. Roger Starr, Jennifer Hughes and Celia Starr had advised as clients regarding the table’s design and Roger Starr conducted a question and answer session with Jamie for the information of the Meeting attendees. Mrs Baldock unveiled the table after some information and anecdotes of its design and manufacture had been heard.
The table, which features the Quaker ‘Q’ blending into a surround of beech and utile, is inset with oak. The brief also required the table to contain a percentage of reclaimed wood and modified mahogany table legs were used to satisfy this specification.
Jamie, who has secured a place for next year to read Product Design at Saint Martins London, should be suitably proud of his work and I hope this successful commission becomes the first of many in his career as a product designer.
