Girls' U12 VII Hockey v Hans Price Academy, Wednesday 2 March: Sidcot 4-0 HPA
This was another good game for the girls on what proved to be a really cold afternoon.
From the outset Sidcot looked the stronger side, more robust in the tackle and with greater pace of pass. There was much Sidcot attacking – although for a while no chances were converted. It was inevitable that a goal would be forthcoming, however, and it was Ana de la Torre who scored.
There was further good attacking and further shots were thwarted by a very ‘on form’ Hans Price ‘keeper. Prior to the break, Molly Whitcombe scored twice.
The second half saw more of the same and although the defence were called upon a little more, Issie Fawcett in the Sidcot goal was not troubled. Erin Crofts scored a further goal in the final stages of the match.
This was another solid and tenacious performance from the girls who are really beginning to come together as a squad.

Girls' U13 Hockey v Hans Price Academy, Wednesday 2 March: Sidcot 10-0 HPA
The U13 girls were delighted to be playing their second fixture on the Astro this week. They were positive in their warm up and ready for an attacking game.
Having won the push back they dominated the play applying great pressure on Hans Price in the D. The opposition did not have a goalie which proved to be a little unnerving for the attack as they were reluctant to strike too hard in fear of hurting a player. This resulted in a number of near misses and many hit outs for Hans Price. Then a bit like last week's game as soon as the first goal a was eventually scored by Katie Price from a nice cross from Sarah Carr the girls started to undermine the defence on a regular basis. Freya King, Maisy Hann and Katie again all managed to score before the half time break.
The second half saw Sidcot continue to dominate play even when defence were swapped with attack so that Ciara Henneke and Meghan Vivian could have a chance to score. Jasmine Bell who had kindly stepped in to play goalie this week did not get a chance to practice her kicking skills.
In the end Katie scored 5, Maisy 3 and Freya 2. It was nice to see the girls play the ball around the defence in the D and set up some good scoring chances.

Girls’ U15 / U16 Netball v Hans Price Academy, Wednesday 2 March: Sidcot 9-2 HPA
Sidcot entertained Hans Price in a fixture that was played in great spirit and with much enthusiasm. Hans fielded a team of players who were just returning to netball after a few years break and so this gave Sidcot the opportunity to also include some debutant netballers of their own.
After a rather frenetic first quarter, both teams settled to play some nice netball, moving the ball at speed and challenging hard for the interception. Clementine Zhang, playing at GK, used her close marking to restrict the space available to her shooting opponent and then linked well with Elizabeth Cao, to get the ball moving out of defence. Helen Qiao worked hard at her position of WA and gradually started to feed some fast ball into the shooting circle, where Nicole Chan and Kitty Leung outwitted their defenders with some quick and effective footwork.
Both girls showed great awareness of each other’s movements to find good position under the post, from where they confidently slotted away many attempts on goal.
Despite their initial anxiety, this being their first ever game, all the girls performed excellently, grew in confidence as the game progressed and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done girls!

Girls' Weston & District Netball v Buccaneers, Wednesday 2 March: Sidcot 22-27 Buccaneers
Sidcot should feel a little disappointed that they lost this game having beaten the same team by an easy margin early in the season. The main difference between the two teams this time was the strength and physicality in their defensive unit. Buccaneers not only denied the Sidcot shooters space within the circle, but their ability to hold their reach when defending a shot on goal, applied a lot of pressure on the normally composed Charlotte Dolman, Jade Corbett and Issy Fowles. All three girls worked tirelessly to lose their opponents, but such pressure eventually took its toll, resulting in many missed chances.
At the other end of the court Beth Evans and Zoe Mercer were kept extremely busy and coped well to intercept the incoming ball. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, they could not deny the GS and GA from slotting home their numerous attempts on goal.
In a last ditch effort to reverse the score, Sidcot made several positional changes with Emma Patch moving back to GD and Beth Evans to GA. For a while Sidcot began to eat into the Buccaneers score, but unfortunately despite winning the last quarter, it was not quite enough to win the game.

Girls' 1st V11 Netball v Kings of Wessex Academy, Thursday 3 March: Sidcot 9-23 KoW
This was a fast flowing game with the ball passing quickly from end to end. The girls started strongly holding the Kings attack well. They marked closely but could not quite cope with the speed at which the opposition were working at. Kings used a lot of overhead balls which were intercepted by the defence on occasions but more often than not were successful. When Sidcot used flat balls with pace they linked together well and gave the shooters opportunity to score. Sadly the scoring rate for Sidcot was slow and steady throughout the match. In the last quarter the pace of play became a little frenetic with both teams losing possession from wild passes. Kings however remained strong and continued to increase their lead.

Girls’ U15 Netball v Kings of Wessex Academy: Thursday 3 March: Sidcot 12-16 KoW
This was a closely fought encounter which could have easily gone either way. Sidcot started strongly and dominated the first quarter five goals to one. This prompted Kings into some tactical changing of players, which had an immediate effect on the balance of game. Now playing with greater intensity and with more accurate shooting form their new GA and GS, Kings quickly scored eight goals to a disappointing one from Sidcot.
After some key coaching points at half time, Sidcot re-established control with some better movement and swifter passing of the ball, especially from the mid court into the attacking third. Having won the third quarter, Sidcot unfortunately lost their stalwart GD, Savina Mu through injury. This sadly upset the balance of the team and Kings consequently took advantage to win the game by a four goal margin.

Boys’ U12 Football v Queen Elizabeth's Hospital School, Thursday 25 February: Sidcot 2-8 QEH
Sidcot started very well and for the first ten minutes were the more dominant team. However, on their first visit into the Sidcot half, QEH scored from a long range shot and this then set the pattern for the remainder of the half.
Ben Northcott managed to find the net just before half time, reducing the deficit and Storm Biles, Adam Weaver and Harry Jackson all worked hard to keep moving the ball forward. Making substitute changes at the break also stemmed the tide and after some improved accuracy in their passing, Tim Williams added to Sidcot’s tally with an excellent 25-yard drive.
All boys gave of their best and despite the score, everyone involved enjoyed the game.

Boys' 1st XI Football v Wycliffe College, Saturday 27 February: Sidcot 2-2 Wycliffe
Sidcot produced another battling performance in what was a very physical and competitive match. The boys played the more attractive football and with the wind at the backs. While Sidcot had the better of the chances, Wycliffe always looked dangerous due to their physicality and equalised just before the break.
Sidcot passed the ball around well at the start of the second half and were rewarded with a second goal when Will Corderoy's freekick was deflected into the net. Wycliffe the pressed hard for an equaliser and scored a well taken second to earn what was a fair draw.

Boys' Queen Elizabeth's Hospital School Rugby 7s Tournament, Thursday 3 March
Having prepared with two types of training sessions a week and one strength condition session with our S&C Coach, Andy MacDonald, the boys took to the field both mentally and physically prepared for the task ahead.
Against the top rugby schools in the surrounding area, the lads more than aquitted themselves starting with a comprehensive victory over our old rivals, Bristol Cathedral School; however, better was to follow.
The second match was against Bristol Grammar School, and after being two tries down after half term they came back heroically with three tries in the second half to clinch victory. This recorded our first ever victory over BGS in any form of rugby.
The third match was against the host, QEH, and from 5-all deep into the second half Sidcot camped on their 5-metre line. A contreversial refereeing decison allowed QEH a freekick in which they scored a breakaway winning try. To compete with a school of this magnitude was yet again an outstanding achievement, and all down to the hard work of the lads this term.
