Volleyball News
Sidcot have entered a team into the Bristol & District Mixed Volleyball League this season.
Sidcot’s first match against last year's league winners City of Bristol was a display of defensive excellence resulting in Sidcot taking 12 points in set one and 15 in set two. The commitment from the players was commendable and their drive and determination to fight for every point was evident and should be applauded.
The second game against Bath University was a very near miss. A game filled with nail-biting rallies that captivated the spectators with a point for point format. The final result of 25-23 and 25-21 provided a confident display from Sidcot players. Their offensive and defensive systems were clearly well drilled and the team received a lot of admirable praise from both the University and City of Bristol for their abilities and unity for such a young team in a well-established league.

Reservoir Run 2017
By the end of this week, all of our girls will have had their opportunity to perambulate around Cheddar Reservoir – and how well they have all done!
We have experienced various weathers, but all have ‘given it a go’ and have participated with aplomb.
We have yet to ‘tot up’ the House scores to see which House comes out top – but we now have a good idea of who may be selected to run in our Cross-Country teams at the North Somerset Championships in November!
We congratulate all who have run, jogged or ‘power-walked’ round so cheerfully and with such happy good spirit.
Great fun – well done!

Bath Biathlon Competition, Friday 6th October
A small team of students were taken to Bath University for The Prior Park School Biathlon Time Trial last week. There were some fantastic performances and the students represented Sidcot proudly.
U14 boys: Will- 11th place

Well done to all U12 netballers this week who played very well against Broadoak School. Well done to Honey and Otillie who were players of the match.

U13 Netball v Broadoak, Tuesday 10th October: Sidcot 3-3 Broadoak
The U13s got off to a cracking start with a 2-1 lead in the first and second quarter. The goals were scored by Claudia Jarman and Izzy Hoddell. Broadoak then came back in the third quarter with 3 goals while Sidcot proceeded to score another. This made the whole match a 3-all draw. The girls played brilliantly and proceeded throughout the whole game as a team supporting each other. The girls should be proud of themselves individually and as a team. Keep up the good work.

U14 Netball v Broadoak Tuesday 10th October: Sidcot 14-0 Broadoak
The U14 girls used the tactics they had practiced in the training session last week to good effect. They were more stretched down the court and timed their passes well to enable a smooth flow of the ball from one end of the court to the other. They had a strong first quarter where they dominated play and scored 6 goals. The following quarters were not quite so strong although they still dominated play. Their passes were a little hasty and possession was lost on several occasions when a wild pass was made inaccurately into the attacking circle. There were however some fantastic interceptions in the defending circle and mid court areas. The girls now need to work on slowing the pace down a little so that possession is maintained.

Weston District League Netball v Yatton, Wednesday 11th October: Sidcot 28-41 Yatton
The girls had an extremely tough match this week against Yatton, where they rose to the challenge and without a doubt played their best netball so far.
In the first quarter the ladies began strong with it being neck and neck, however in the second quarter we started to tire and there were some slip ups. After making half time substitutions the ladies came back out strong and won the third quarter but in the final part of the game the ladies could not hold on and we ended up conceding in the final aspects of the game. There was some tremendous defending displayed in the first and third quarters and some excellent attacking play throughout. I was pleased with all players performances. Well done to Mati, who received player of the match.

U15/16 Hockey v Broadoak School, Thursday 5th October: Sidcot 1-2 Broadoak
Our girls worked hard in what proved to be an exciting and evenly contested, end to end game. There was some super passing – good of pace and accurately placed.
The Sidcot defence held firm for much of the game, despite good, raking runs from the Broadoak strikers. Marking was tight and Maddy Northcott played her role as sweeper stoutly – well done to all, indeed.
Broadoak did manage to break through to score, but Sidcot were eager to reply and, in reality, had the better of the play, but ended up scoring less!
Jo Morley again made her mark in the midfield, driving through to score a super goal near the close.
A pleasing and spirited team effort.

U16 Hockey v Priory School, Thursday 5th October: Sidcot 1-3 Priory
This proved a solid performance against one of the stronger schools in our cohort. Ours girls played with determination and zest, working hard to reach loose balls first and always looking to make good passes.
In what proved a fairly even game, Priory made the more of their chances – but there was a fine individual effort late in the game which was admirably converted by Jo Morley.
It was a super game to both watch and umpire, played in great determined spirit and good humour.

1st XV Round Up
The boys have made a positive and energetic start to the season, winning a try-fest against opposition from Bristol Cathedral School (54-34) with flying winger Tulsi Winterson capping off some flowing attacking play with four tries. The boys also won another entertaining match with St Katherines School (48-33) with seasoned players Jacob McGurl and Harry Wayne setting a good example for those with less experience.
It has been brilliant to see so much interest and commitment in representing the school, particularly from our new year 11 players and it was a shame that other weekend commitments have limited our Saturday fixtures this term.
We have a visit to Bristol Cathedral School scheduled for Wednesday 1st November and a fixture on Saturday 18th November against Warminster School. Please pop them in the diary and ensure that we can keep the winning start to the season going!
