A fabulous victory for the Upper Fourth girls!

Girls' U14 North Somerset Hockey Tournament at Gordano School, Tuesday 13th March

Group games

Vs Gordano - won 1 – 0 (Abbie Bewley)
Vs Hans Price Academy: - won 2 – 0 (Abbie Bewley, Erin Crofts)
Vs Clevedon: - won 1- 0  (Alyssa Addison)
Semi – final v Backwell: won 2 – 0  (Abbie Bewley, Sophie Murray)
Final v Worle: draw 0-0 at full time – but WON 3 – 2 on penalty shuttles!!! (Lottie Gunter – 2, Abbie Bewley)

This was a super afternoon in terms of weather – but much more importantly standard of performance from these girls. They have been improving and progressing really well over the course of the term, have achieved some great results and the tournament was the culmination of their season.

They found themselves in a strong group and in a first game against Gordano did really well to pressure Gordano into conceding a goal – brilliant!

The second game against Hans Price proved a slightly more comfortable affair, with our girls dominating the play and moving the ball swiftly and accurately.

The final group game against Clevedon was the clincher – were we to go through as top of the group or second? – which would determine who we would face in the semi-final. It was hotly contested and chances were created by both sides. The deadlock was broken by a super Sidcot goal – semi-final place secured – and against the runners up of the other group. Excellent!

The girls came out for the semi-final with great determination to face Backwell, who had beaten us earlier in the season. In what proved to be an equally contested affair it was Sidcot who managed to slot two home before the end of the game. The Final here we came!!

It was to be Worle in the final – the other team that had beaten us on home soil earlier in the season – so the girls were really eager for revenge!

The game flowed from end to end with possible chances falling for both – no goals were forthcoming, however, and the full time score was 0-0.

The result was to be decided by penalty shuttle and Lottie Gunter, Abi Bewley and Evie Puddie were the three nominated to take them. Vicki Lawrence needed to play her important role as Sidcot ‘keeper.

First up, Lottie – who scored an absolute scorcher – followed by a Worle miss. Next came Abbie – another great finish, so Sidcot moved ahead – but this time Worle converted. Evie needed to score to win – but sadly the ball slid away from her – Worle took their chance to equalize.

And so to sudden death. Lottie first and another superb conversion, followed by a Worle shuttle which Vicki moved out to close down... A Worle miss and VICTORY to Sidcot!

Massively exciting and very much deserved. This has been a fabulous team to coach and teach. Super team spirit, excellent sportsmanship and a constant display of all the positive sporting attributes that we hold dear!

Absolutely fabulous!

North Somerset Senior Swimming Gala at Hutton Moor Thursday 15th March

All the students who represented the school at this Gala on Thursday afternoon swam competitively and with determination. There was great team spirit and support for each swimmer. All of the races were very competitive and show cased some of the best swimmers in the Weston area.

We are still awaiting the official results but we know that Freya King won the 50m Butterfly and front crawl while Ben Bradley Wilson won the 50m front crawl. The placings on several other races were so close that we are waiting confirmation but hope to have achieved a few second places in several events.

It was nice to see the commitment from all the swimmers but particularly the non-club swimmers who stepped up to the challenge and participated to the best of their ability. It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with these students.

Boys' U15 Rugby v Queen Elizabeth's Hospital School 7s, Tuesday 13th March

On Tuesday, nine of the Lower Fifth rugby side were selected to play in the QEH 7s tournament where they ended up playing 4 games, winning one and losing three. Playing against some tough opposition, the Sidcot boys played some fantastic rugby and were competitive in all of their games, only very narrowly losing.

There were many stand-out performances throughout the tournament, particularly Rufus Long, Myles Nicholas and Eddie Gunningham. A great effort from all the boys and a very enjoyable afternoon.

Boys' U15 Football v Millfield School, 14th March: Sidcot 3-2 Milfield

Our Lower Fifth side travelled to face what is always a very strong Millfield side on Wednesday. After some missed chances in the first half, Sidcot found themselves 0-2 down at half time. After the defence tightened up, the chances came flowing, with a great cross from Toby Pratt volleyed in by Joe Compton. The comeback continued with a great pass from Jack Colm and a great finish by Lennon Coles. The impossible then happened, with Lennon scoring a second and giving Sidcot a dramatic late victory! A great performance from the whole team.
