Week Ending Friday 29th September
WD Netball v Vixen Rebel
The match started evenly with Sidcot on top after the first quarter but unfortunately things turned around in the second. There was some outstanding play in all areas of the court and I think Sidcot very much matched their opponents, and at times Sidcot were without a doubt the better team. Sidcot ended up losing 32-18 and the score really did not reflect the game. Well done to Maddy Hann who got player of the match, awarded by the opposing team.
Our next match against Yatton takes place on Wednesday 11th October at 8.30pm, so do come along and support the ladies.

Girls' U12 Netball v Churchill Academy, Thursday 28th September: Sidcot A 8-0 Churchill / Sidcot B 0-1 Churchill
The Third Formers had their first game of the season against Churchill this week and what a great start this was. Our A team won their match 8-0 having played the ball around extremely well. Player of the match was Stella Arnold. Our B team then unfortunately lost 1-0 but it was a very close game. Player of the match was Jess Barber who defended brilliantly. Overall I was very pleased with the footwork on the court.

Girls' U13 Netball v Churchill, Thursday 28th September: Sidcot 1-2 Churchill
A large squad of very enthusiastic players arrived at the courts for their first fixture on Thursday. It was a very even match with neither team dominating the play. Both teams missed chances to score so the ball was transferred quickly from one end to the other without a result for most of the match. Claudia scored an early Goal in the first quarter for Sidcot, while Churchill replied with two and this remained the score for the rest of the game. The girls all played their best in a variety of different positions. They are now a little clearer on areas which went well and areas where improvement is required. We are sure their enthusiasm and willingness to improve will bring more coherent play in the future fixtures.

Girls' U14 Netball v Churchill Academy, Thursday 28th September: Sidcot 16-3 Churchill
This was a really good opening performance from this keen and promising squad.
There was determined positivity from the outset and real desire to win the ball. The pace of the game was somewhat fast and furious (an aspect to work on for future games!) but there was good linking play and some really good ‘driving’ movement with good show of hands and communication.
On this occasion, the girls proved a little strong for their Churchill counterparts – but a really pleasing aspect of the game was the good sportsmanship and etiquette on display, and the friendly, cheerful respect that was shown for the opposition. Fabulous!

Girls' U15 Hockey v Churchill Academy, Thursday 28th September: Sidcot 1-3 Churchil
Yesterday our U15 hockey team took on Churchill Academy in a home game. Due to unforeseen circumstances there was a slightly late start, but Sidcot took it in their stride and started well. The defence had to take a strong stance as their attackers were skilled and strong. Within minutes, Sidcot were a goal down. The midfield pulled together and raced forwards setting the forwards up for their first chance at goal. Half time came and the girls rallied together to adjust their formation and objectives. The second half commenced and two more goals were put away from Churchill. As expected, Sidcot drove forwards together in haste and with one minute to go, Sidcot scored a straight strike from the top of the D, leaving the score 1-3.

A real team performance. The group were asked not to focus on the score line, but instead to focus on coming together as a team. And they did just what was asked. The U14 (Lower Fourth) have new players – many of whom playing their very first ever match. The newbies performed well and the established players led and motivated the team well. A great start and the only way is UP!

Boys' U15 Rugby v Sheerbear School & Milton Abbey @ Queens College, Saturday 23rd September
The rugby season got underway for the U15s side (pictured) on Saturday with a trip to Queens Taunton School to play in a three-team tournament between Sidcot, Sheerbear and Milton Abbey. The high hopes the coaches had for this promising team was evidenced in these two opening games; an exciting season awaits.
The first match saw Sidcot face Sheerbear School. Sidcot started slowly with the rustiness showing, Sheerbear capitalised with an early score inside five minutes. This was clearly the wake-up call that Sidcot needed. Strong yards were made from the pack including Joe Compton, Jim Mitchell and William Lloyd, to name a few. Sidcot grew stronger as the game continued and with a bit of luck, Henry Binks crossed the line for Sidcot’s opening try to level the score. As the game continued, Sidcot were beginning to dominate with the pack causing Sheerbear real trouble and the backs – namely Henry Hawkins and Toby Pratt were finding lots of space to run into. Sidcot’s first half dominance continued into the second half with some very attractive passing rugby being played. After a few missed chances, Toby Pratt finally put Sidcot into the lead with a few minutes to spare Sidcot won their first game 10-5.
After a 40-minute break, Sidcot faced their second opponents of the day, Milton Abbey School. The confidence from their first game clearly transferred into the second with Sidcot on top from the start – runs from Joe Compton, Toby Finch and Henry Hawkins were causing real damage. Ten minutes in, Louis Browne gave a great pass to put Compton over for his second try of the day, closely followed by a beautifully worked try putting Pratt over in the corner. A slight lack of communication let Milton Abbey through for a try right before half time. Luckily this gave Sidcot their second wind going into the second half with William Lloyd taking the ball from the base of a ruck and smashing his way to the try line, returning Sidcot’s two-try lead. Some nice passing rugby led to Jim Mitchell crossing the line to give Sidcot a 20-5 win. All in all a very exciting start to the season for a promising young squad of players.
