Top of the Bench competition
On 20 January Conor Hennecke (U5), Josh Keating (U4), William Lewin (U4) and I went with Mr Scott to a chemistry competition at Bristol University.
We had a warm welcome into the university and were briefed on safety by a friendly chemist. We then headed to the labs to have a go at some practicals.
The experiments had to be completed in a set time. The first was the iodine clock experiment where we had to dilute the mixture so that it would turn black at a certain time. Then we split into pairs and experimented with temperature changes of reactions and solutions.
After lunch there was a talk and demonstration that was both interesting and funny. There were lots of explosions which made us all jump!
It was an educational and fun day.
