Author visit: Philip Reeve
I have been a fan of Philip Reeve’s books since he first wrote the Mortal Engine series. Sidcot students shadowed the Carnegie award when his book Here Lies Arthur won the Carnegie medal in 2008. I was delighted when I learnt that Sidcot would be included in Philip’s promotional tour for his new book Rail Head.
Philip read samples from Rail Head with an audio visual presentation of music and images that complemented the readings and explained his inspirations for the characters, genres and landscapes.
At the end of the talk Philip signed books for students and a copy for the school which he illustrated with his impression of one of the characters – a hive monk. We hope students enjoy reading his books as much as they enjoyed the talk.
In other news
The Staff Sixth Form Reading Group met before half term to discuss books read over the summer. Books chosen to read for the following term and Christmas break include: Room by Emma Donaghue, A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler, The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell and The Gallery of Vanished Husbands by Natasha Solomons.
