Breakthrough for Sidcot Polo Player
Keen Sidcot polo player Olly Davis (13) from Kenn, has been spotted by the governing body for polo in the UK, Ireland and many other countries throughout the world.
During the summer, Olly played in a Division 1 national tournament and was spotted by the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA) Development Committee who identify players who they believe show potential and talent. As well as being responsible for the regulations and rules under which the game is played, the object of the HPA is to further the interests of polo generally and support by all possible means the common interests of its affiliated clubs and associations.
Olly was first introduced to polo three years ago during some taster lessons at Sidcot Equestrian Centre – he was instantly hooked on the sport. He now trains at Vaux Park, South Petherton for two hours every Saturday.
He said: "I love polo and my two horses, Dinky (pictured) and Annie. I'm really shocked to have been given the opportunity to play in South Africa!"
Olly has been selected, alongside 7 others from across the country, to attend intensive polo training in South Africa from 12th to 22nd December with renowned polo coach Buster Mackenzie, where he will have the opportunity to develop and improve his polo whilst enjoying the sunshine just before Christmas.
