Drugs Awareness Talk

Drugs Awareness Talk

Wednesday 8 February 6.30pm to 8pm, Old Library

We have organised for Dave Parvin from Drugs Sense UK (www.drugsenseuk.co.uk) to come back into school on Wednesday 8 February to deliver a seminar to parents. Dave will be doing similar workshops for students in the Fourth and Fifth Form earlier in the day. As a former Drug Squad Officer with North Yorkshire Police, Dave brings with him a wealth of first hand experience and moving accounts of drug use. When Dave came into school in October to run a similar workshop for parents, the uptake was rather disappointing. Those who were able to attend found the evening extremely useful and you may remember one parent writing the following in the Newsletter:

"We all think this will not happen to us, that it will be someone else's family, but I am afraid this is not always true. We as parents should be informed and ready to take advice from people that know the risks, education is the key and talking about something that makes you feel uncomfortable with your children really is the way ahead."

Dave will try to help parents recognise and resolve early signs of drug misuse and also identify commonly used substances.

The presentation will begin at 6.30pm in the Old Library and will finish at around 8pm with some time built into that for questions.

If you would like to attend, rsvp to headspa@sidcot.org.uk by Monday 6 February.
