Duke of Edinburgh Award
As part of the training for the Silver award expedition section, 35 Lower Sixth and Pathway students spent a day following routes through the countryside from Bleadon Hill back to Sidcot. The day started with a session on First Aid in the classroom which included a chance to try bandaging.
The groups were then taken by minibus to the starting points and set off to find their way using map and compass. At lunchtime the routes converged and we enjoyed a packed lunch around a campfire with a chance to roast marshmallows.
All of the groups completed the routes efficiently and coped well with some muddy conditions.
Dates of training days this term are:
- Gold award – Sunday 7 February
- Silver award (L6 and pathway) – Sunday 28 February
- Bronze award (Lower fifth) – Saturday 5 March
eDofE is an important part of the award and students should enter their choices of activity for Volunteering, Skill and Physical Recreation on the system when they start the section. On completion the supervisor should sign the DofE record book and the evidence should be uploaded onto eDofE so that we can approve it. If students need help with this process Mrs Skyrme can be found in the computer room on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes.
