Duke of Edinburgh Gold Expedition
Each September we run a Gold expedition in the Brecon Beacons and this year the conditions were the most challenging we can remember. The ten upper students coped magnificently with the four day expedition where carrying everything they needed and camping in hill farms they covered a 50 mile route through wild country. This was the sixth expedition for most of the students and they are now experienced and competent in navigation and campcraft. They supported each other well and were always positive and cheerful. The second day was the toughest and both groups took 11 hours to reach the campsite where there was no time to rest as tents had to be put up and food cooked as the light faded. At the end there were shrieks of delight and some tears as the minibus came into view waiting for the return journey for hot showers, food and a warm bed.
Well done everyone, you can be proud of your achievements.
