Sidcot Students Ignite the Stage at the Dymond Speech Competition!
The legendary Dymond Speech Competition was back this week to wrap up another fantastic year of learning at Sidcot School! This long-standing tradition, dating back to 1911, once again showcased the exceptional talent of our students.
Four courageous finalists stepped up to the challenge, each armed with a topic that sparked their passion. From exploring the intricacies of neurodiversity in girls to discussing the underfunding of sickle cell disease, the subjects were as diverse as the students themselves. We even had ventures into the unknown with speeches on aliens and psychedelics! Each presentation captivated the audience with its depth, eloquence, and undeniable stage presence. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were witnessing a masterclass in public speaking!
The competition wasn't just about delivering a prepared speech. Our finalists truly impressed the esteemed panel of judges, comprised of Sidcotian President Alastair MacLaurin-Jones, Associate Professor Nathan Waddell, and Early Years Teacher Amanda Le Quesne, with their ability to think on their feet and confidently answer questions from the audience.
A huge congratulations to our youngest competitor, Misty, who was crowned the overall winner! Onyinye secured a well-deserved second place, with Amalie and Ginny close behind as runners-up.
The Dymond Speech Competition is a testament to the exceptional skills and intellectual curiosity fostered at Sidcot School. These young minds not only possess impressive knowledge but also the confidence and charisma to share it with the world. We can't wait to see what incredible things they achieve in the future!
