During the summer holidays, Lower Fourth student Guy Owen competed at the European Windsurfing Championships in Israel. It was five days of challenging conditions – light winds coupled with complicated wave patterns coming off the Mediterranean, which is not what he’s used to from training at Cheddar Reservoir and Weymouth Harbour. It was also over 30°C which made the boom very hot and left him with lots of blisters on his hands! Still, he finished 24th out of 41 after 13 races. He was just getting going by day five when he had some of his best results – 4th place in the last race against strong Israeli sailors who go to a special windsurfing school right on the beach! Guy can’t wait to get back to the start line at the World Championships in Cadiz in October. Well done Guy!
