Hockey 7s – U12A Team and U13B Team v Wellington School

A wonderful bright and warm afternoon welcomed us at Wellington School as well as a very nice warm welcome from staff and students alike. I was privileged to have with me a number of very keen very mature and ready young hockey players; the Third Formers looking strong and determined with a real range of experience and ability. The Lower Fourth, decimated by illness had only five players – Wellington let us a couple and we kitted up and got started.

It was a great experience for our boys and the one sided score line did not reflect the game as it was played. The Third Form worked really hard pushing well in attack and making some incisive passes and moves into the circle, only to be denied by the keeper or miss the goal very narrowly. In defence they were solid and it was the luck of the rebound that got the first goal against the opposition and then we pushed a little too hard up field toward the end, leaving the goalie exposed.

Special mentions to Fred Black, Ted Ballard and Alex Bryant in goal who was crazy!

The Lower Fourth, with some really significant inexperience, were fab. Really working hard and although had the right idea, were not quite ready to execute these ideas on the pitch. Very positive however.

Special mentions to Sam Pilling and Alex Milne in goal (he was a lunatic!)

Players of the match:

Third Form and Lower Fourth Hockey v Priory School

Third Form: Sidcot 4-0 Priory

The Lower Fourth played some absolutely superb hockey. Their positioning and movement was excellent and as a result their support for each other was brilliant. There was some excellent passing and possession resulting in some fantastic goals. Well done to players of the match Sophia and Eleanor. Unbelievable Hockey!!!

Lower Fourth: Sidcot 2-1 Priory

The Lower Fourth remained consistent in the first half managing to put in some excellent tackles, with only one shot resulting in a goal for Priory. The team came back much stronger in the second half displaying some great support, communication and passing. This resulted in Sidcot being able to put away two goals and win the match. Well done to the players of the match Renee and Harriet. Great job girls!
