Junior School KS2 Sports Academy:
Paralympian Kate Grey visits Sidcot

Sport was very much on the agenda on Monday, 18 January, when the Junior School KS2 Sports Academy took place. The day followed on from the successful Pre-Season Orientation Camp we ran in early September.

Throughout the day students were ‘tested’ both physical and mentally in a team environment to see how they were able to cope with being challenged, and it was clear that the Real PE programme we have initiated during PE and Games in the Junior School is starting to pay dividends, with all students able to use their all their emotional and thinking skills to overcome each of the problems presented to them with enthusiasm and relish.

The students also had the pleasure of meeting Paralympic swimmer, Kate Grey who mesmerised us all. As well as participating in all the events with the students, Kate also told us the story, after losing her left arm at the age of two, learning to swim at four and her relentless determination to overcome her disability and become a world class athlete.  We can’t thank Kate enough, her presence elevated the enthusiasm of the pupils, with her story helping students to recognise that perseverance is required to achieve the goals you set yourself and how important sport can be on that journey.
