What an exciting week it has been in the Junior School! This week, students, parents and staff all enjoyed the Early Years, KS1, and KS2 Sports Days, taking part in all kinds of exhilarating athletics and amazing races. Everyone had a lot of fun out in the sun and we were blown away by the support that all of our students demonstrated to one another. Find out more about each event below, and check out all the photos from the events.
Early Years and KS1 Sports Day
Tuesday 13 June 1.30-3.30pm
The weather was extremely kind to us for our Early Years and KS1 Sports Day on Tuesday afternoon. The students were proud to showcase some of the different activities that they have been practising to the fantastic crowd of parents and grandparents in attendance. Each year group performed all of the races, which included sprints and longer distance runs, egg and spoon races, obstacle courses and relay.
Most evident was the culture that we are building with our young people of ‘Personal Best’; a mindset of being the best we can be. It was wonderful to hear the children cheering on every participant, regardless of where they finished in the race. In this way, we are developing a lifelong love of physical learning and valuing the process of taking part.
This certainly played out in the Parent Races, where our children were delighted to cheer on their grown-ups too! Thankfully no injuries were sustained…!
Our thanks to Mr Molland, our Junior School PE Lead, for all of his hard work in organising the event, to the J6 volunteers who helped with all of the races, and all of the PE and support staff and teachers who have helped behind the scenes. A great time was had by all!
KS2 Sports Day
Friday 16 June 10.00am-3.30pm
The day started off extremely sunny and excitement was in the air!
The morning consisted of a carousel of field events; high jump, long jump, overarm throw, discus, shot put and the 150m. All pupils took part in these events to put everything they had learnt from their PE lessons this term to the test, trying their hardest to achieve personal bests, and to win points for their Houses. After the morning field events the children had the opportunity to do the 600m, and we were so proud to see so many children opting to take part in this long-distance race! This was followed by a well-deserved champions lunch on the field.
At 1:30 pm the track events commenced, and parents joined the fray to cheer on all the students. Events included: sprints, hurdles, gold relay and the Sidcot relay race. We were so impressed by the amazing teamwork and support displayed throughout, the fantastic hard work that had clearly gone in to prepare for these events, and the enthusiasm for the whole day!
At the end of all the events we enjoyed a presentation celebrating the success and participation of all the pupils. Cups were awarded to pupils from each year group and The Margaret Spottiswoode Cup was awarded to the child who portrayed an array of our Quaker values in sport throughout the School year.
The awards were presented as follows:
J3: Abigail and Massimo.
J4: Ellie, Minni and Frank.
J5: Darcy, Oscar and Bertie.
J6: Evie and Finley.
The Margaret Spottiswoode Cup: Kasia and Max.
We also had a number of records broken throughout the day! A big well done to the following children who now have their name written in Sidcot sporting history:
Finley – Shot Put – 13.15
Massimo – Discus – 13.7
Bertie – Nerf/overarm throw – 38.65
Frank – Discus – 16.6
Finley – Nerf/overarm throw – 42.23
Bertie – Discus – 16.15
Oscar – 80m – 11.48
Massimo – 50m – 8.35
Bertie – 600m – 2.05
Finally, all the House points earnt by the children were added up and the House cup was awarded to West House!
Thank you to all the teachers, PE team, catering team, Year 10 helpers and the marketing and maintenance teams. This day is a huge operation and could not run without the help of others. Most of all, thank you to all the parents who came to spectate, and the children who put in everything they had to do their very best!
