Junior Schools’ Cluster Tennis Tournament
Sidcot took part in the Junior Schools’ Cluster Tennis Tournament at Cheddar Tennis Club on Friday afternoon and enjoyed plenty of success. Participating in a team of four, comprising of two girls and two boys, Sidcot entered three teams and all players exceeded expectations by winning many of their early matches. After the initial round-robin stages Sidcot ‘A’ were through to the knockout, with Sidcot ‘B’ in the play-offs. Progressing onto the semi-finals, Sidcot ‘A’ faced the eventual winners of the Tournament in Cheddar ‘A’ and despite some close encounters, were unfortunately eased out to finish in third place overall. Sidcot ‘B’ eventually finished in 8th place.
For some of the participants this was their first taste of Inter school fixtures and although quite naturally apprehensive, they all performed exceptionally well. Henry Williams led from the front with some sublime tennis and was ably assisted by Jaime de la Torre, Emily Hawkins and Madison Langson to finish in 3rd place. Reg Derham, Woody Dancey, Verity Sayers and Eva Atkinson all contributed valiantly against much stronger opposition, whilst Marcel Adams, Charles Radford and Harriet Blair made massive improvements throughout the afternoon.
All the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and Sidcot certainly has some potential Wimbledon finalists in its ranks! Many thanks to those parents who came to support and to the children who showed great spirit in competition.
