Messages of Hope
This week we celebrated the coming together of Sidcot staff and students in memory of those affected by the Manchester Bombing last year.
The assembly was run by Fabia Carney (Graduate Intern) who experienced the trauma first hand whilst living in Manchester at the time. The assembly highlighted just how wonderful and selfless a community can be, when faced with difficult times. The help of the rescue services, taxi drivers, local hotels and general public was astonishing. Students listened to Tony Walsh’s ‘This Is The Place’ poem and were shown the public’s response to the Manchester Vigil, which left Manchester’s City Centre flooded with flowers. The assembly was ended with a mixed group of staff and students singing proudly ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, as was sung at the Manchester Vigil. Emotion filled the room at this poignant moment and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
After assembly Fabia took students out into the courtyard to leave messages of hope, love and peace. Many students felt compelled to write their own thoughts and feelings about the event, which in turn left Sidcot feeling somewhat brighter and uplifted.
