Owen Siblings' Windsurfing Achievements
Brother and sister windsurfing duo, Guy and Ruby Owen, both attended the National Junior Windsurfing Championships in September – together with 12 other local windsurfers.
The pair were competing for their club, Axbridge Animals, who train at Cheddar reservoir. The club has some very talented young windsurfers and as a team they managed to win (for the second year in a row) the National Championship Cup for windsurfing, beating eight other clubs from across the country. Only the best clubs, having qualified in their regions, attend the national championships, so this is a huge achievement for Ruby and Guy's local club.
Individually, Ruby was 6th overall in her sail class (5.8) and Guy was 5th overall in his class (6.8). Their work during the summer months is something to be very proud of – putting in many many hours on the water – it's good to see that it has paid off in the end.
Secondly, the Owen family have just received news that Guy has been selected to join the RYA UK junior squad for (Techno) windsurfing. He will be selected to join this national junior squad (all aged 12 to 16). To gain this opportunity, the individual has to attend numerous events around the country, compete and be ranked among the top in their respective fleet. Fortunately, Guy has been able to this and he starts training at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) in November.
Well done Guy and Ruby!
