Lower Sixth student James Barber recently participated in a debate at Oxford University’s Sheldonian Theatre, representing Balliol College.
James was attending a Global Leadership summer school at Balliol College organized by the Oxford Royale Academy. The course was intended to bring together international young leaders to discuss political theory, philosophy, sociology and contemporary international relations, and included representatives from 14 different countries.
James was chosen to represent Balliol College at the Oxford Great Debate 2019 as one of four debaters selected from several hundred students to discuss the motion “This house believes the most dangerous place to stay is in your own comfort zone”. The debate was chaired by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who James spent some time with afterwards. James said that the whole experience has fueled his passion for PPE more than ever.
