The inaugural senior school gala on Tuesday 4 March under the new House system proved to be a great success. There were some extremely closely contested races throughout the afternoon and at the half way point the scores could hardly have been closer with this nail biting excitement lasting right through to the final relay.
There was some fabulous swimming on display across all the age groups but, just as importantly, there were swimmers of all capabilities - keen and willing to do their bit to earn their House some points.
Six records were broken: Imogen Moroney broke the Junior Girls backstroke and Individual Medley records; James King broke the Junior boys butterfly and individual medley record and Jasmine Moroney, the intermediate girls butterfly and individual medley. Superb indeed! The individual trophies were won by Imogen Moroney, James King, Jasmine Moroney, Alex Taylor, Ailsa Craig and Elliott Dew.
The fight for the shield was a very close swum thing, with only two points separating three of the places! The final result saw South and West in joint second, with the shield being lifted by the captains of East House.
We would very much like to thank all those who came to support our gala. We would also like to thank the captains who did a really sterling job in mobilising their teams and therefore helping to ensure that the afternoon ran smoothly.
We are proud of our swimmers and congratulate them – both those who compete regularly and to high standard and also those who, perhaps, stepped up to the plate and slightly out of their comfort zone to support and swim for their House team. Very well done to all.
