Sidcot students have smashed the national average when it comes to GCSE exam results with 92% of students achieving grades A* (star) to C and 96% gaining a minimum of five GCSEs graded from A* (star) to C.
While national statistics show a declining number of pupils achieving an A* (star) to C grade at GCSE, Headmaster Iain Kilpatrick is delighted that Sidcot has repeatedly bucked the trend. He said: “This has been termed a turbulent time for GCSE results, with standards being called into question, but at Sidcot we pride ourselves on creating a nurturing and supportive environment which encourages a love of learning. Our passion and commitment has been rewarded and I am delighted that Sidcot students have achieved results which significantly outperform the national average – a testament to their hard work and the support of their teachers and family”.
Close to 51% of Sidcot students moved to the top of the class, each achieving 7 or more GCSEs with A*(star) / A grades. These include Emily Coombes, Lauren Mercer, Nicolas Tarquini, Naomi Tucker and David White from Winscombe; Ben McClean and Rick Wilsher from Brent Knoll; Tom Melvin and Brady Woods from Axbridge; Tom Ingle from Wedmore; Jemima Beauchamp from Blackford; George Michael and Gabrielle House from Bleadon and Jessica Starkey and Natasha Csonge from Portishead. In addition to our local students, Kenrick Yuan (Hong Kong) and Dominic Taylor (Switzerland) also attained top grades.
Interestingly, at Sidcot boys and girls have performed equally well, achieving the same average point score per candidate.
Mr Kilpatrick added: “At Sidcot we give students time and space to pursue their interests, to develop talent and to think about the kind of future they would like. When our students do make their exam choices – whether it is GCSE, A Level or the International Baccalaureate – they are ready, motivated and engaged. Our exam results speak for themselves”.
