Four Sidcot students: Freya King, James King, Imogen Moroney and Jasmine Moroney represented the school at this Biathlon competition on sunday 13 October. They were determined and focused in each discipline, producing some great results.
In the pool they all achieved their target times and displayed great style and stamina. Freya had to sprint one 50 m length of the pool while Imogen and James cruised through two lengths leaving Jasmine to take on the longer distance of four lengths. This proved to be everyone’s strongest event clocking up some valuable points. The participants would have been excused if they thought they were actually still swimming when they came to run as it was very wet on the track and not conducive to being much fun! Again everyone tried their best and stayed strong to the end. Freya looked comfortable round the 800m even though her stride length was only half of some of the taller competitors. James, Immy and Jasmine had to battle through 1600 m in the rain, setting a steady pace then slowly picking off some of the runners in front of them who had set off too fast. Freya, Immy and James all have birthdays before January so had to compete against competitors who were up to a year older than themselves so they produced some brilliant performances. As Jasmine had produced the 2nd best swim and 4th best run she had accumulated the most points in her class and won.
The results were: Freya 18th in U12 Girls Class James 10th in U14 Boys Class Immy 3rd in U14 Girls Class Jasmine won U15 Girls Class This means that at least two of the participants have gained automatic entry to the national competition in April and the other two could be invited when all the qualifying competitions have taken place.
