North Somerset Cross-Country Championships, Wednesday 15th November

What a fabulous afternoon we had at these Championships!

Full squads of Minor, Junior and Intermediate boys and girls, plus one highly competent Senior girl represented the School at the North Somerset Cross Country Championships at Hutton Moor. And what great determination and resilience when tackling the courses, which ranged in distance from 2k  to 4.6 k, they showed. Many of them even managed a smile as they crossed the finish line!

All ran as individuals, but were also part of the Sidcot team and all our athletes worked really hard to perform at their best to help gain good team positions. They were a credit to the School and achieved some great personal bests.

Team placings were as follows.

  • Minor Boys – 8th
  • Minor Girls – 4th
  • Junior Boys – 4th
  • Junior Girls – 5th
  • Inter Boys – 4th
  • Inter Girls – A fantastic 1st!!!

Overall Sidcot achieved a highly pleasing 5th place – really good stuff.

These placings were, please note, highly creditable – we lie in a District with 10 large comprehensive schools.

Several individuals gained top ten placings which means that they may be selected to represent North Somerset at the Avon Championships later this year. They were :

  • Stella Arnold 2nd / Ottilie Hoddell 8th – Minor Girls
  • Ruby Owen 10th / Junior Girls
  • Sarah Carr 4th / Indeigh Winterson 6th – Inter Girls
  • Imogen Moroney 1st – Senior Girls
  • Oliver Chatting 7th – Inter Boys

A very well done to all our runners. Those in top positions may be selected to represent at higher level – but those who competed and finished slightly lower down the order played a key role in the overall successes of the Sidcot team. Excellent.

Girls' U15 North Somerset Hockey ‘Plate’ Tournament @ Broadoak School, Tuesday 14th November

This was a fairly drizzly and miserable afternoon in terms of weather – but it did little to dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the Lower Fifth squad.

Two full matches were played.

The first, against Worle School was a super game. Both teams played well and had good attacking opportunities. Sidcot proved the slightly stronger in terms of possession and showed more robust tackling and there was generally reasonable ball distribution. However, directly against the run of play, Worle scored deep into the second half and then netted again within seconds of the final whistle.

The second game saw a similar standard of opposition in the form of Broadoak School and again our girls seemed the more dominant in terms of possession and attacking opportunity. A number of short corners were awarded – but still no goal was forthcoming despite further spells of significant pressure!  Final score in this encounter was a 0-0 draw.

Goal scoring practice required!

All the girls should be congratulated for their fine performances and efforts. It was fabulous to see their great endeavour.

Girls' Weston & District U18 Netball v Weston Emerald, Wednesday 15th November: Sidcot 23-27 Weston

Well played to the ladies involved in the Weston District match this week. It was an incredibly close match. Sidcot started on top winning the first quarter, but unfortunately things went downhill in the second and third. Sidcot had an outstanding final quarter but just could not quite catch up. A huge well done to Arianna and Zoe who made some fantastic interceptions throughout the match!
