Girls’ Reservoir Running – Autumn 2017
As you are aware from our news item in the last Newsletter, the girls have been undertaking the annual Axbridge reservoir run – a two-mile jaunt around the lake. The weather has been super and the effort and determination of the girls fantastic.
There have been some fabulous times achieved – but just as importantly tenacity and endeavour from all.
All year groups in the Senior School have now completed their run and I am delighted to post the Reservoir Run ‘Top Ten’ 2017:
Well done to all runners.
This will prove a good starter preparation for the upcoming North Somerset Cross Country Championships to be held at Hutton Moor in Weston-Super-Mare on Wednesday 15th November. We are very hopeful that these girls, and a good number of others, will help to contribute to good team performances in these Championships and that, perhaps, some may achieve North Somerset team selection at this event.
Full teams will be posted in the Sports Centre very soon.

Girls' U14 Netball v Backwell School
An uplifting two matches from the Under 14 teams. Game one ended in a 3-2 loss to Backwell, then the second match ended in a 2-2 draw. Both matches were played with enthusiasm and no energy was lost throughout the match. Well done to the girls who played.

Girls' U15/16 Hockey v Backwell School, Tuesday 31st October: Sidcot 1-1 Backwell
This was, for sure, the most assured performance from our girls yet. They worked very hard in what proved to be another exciting, evenly contested and very competitive game. Passing was crisp and pacy and there was good work both on and off the ball.
The Sidcot defence held firm, Lydia Hodge certainly deserves a mention for her tight marking and anticipation of the Backwell passing and Frankie Harrill also was effective in her role as sweeper, winning good ball and distributing decisively.
Jo Morley again proved herself solid in midfield, making raking runs forward, but also beginning to show better vision and therefore creating openings for teammates by sliding through some good passes to her attackers.
Backwell did manage to break through to score, but Sidcot were eager to reply and showed some real character and determination to create a number of opportunities. A driving run from Gracie Fletcher and composure in front of goal allowed her to slot home the equaliser in what was a super game to both watch and umpire.
A really pleasing team effort – I look forward to their performances at the North Somerset tournament next week.

Girls' Senior Netball v Worle School, Wednesday 1st November: Sidcot 32-44 Worle
Well done to the ladies involved in the Weston District netball team, who played this week against Worle. Despite missing players, Sidcot were strong but it just wasn't enough as Worle ended up taking the match.

Girls' U12 Netball v Backwell School, Thursday 2nd November: Sidcot 9-3 Backwell
A huge well done to the U12 netball team who played fantastically against Backwell this week. Despite many players missing and the team having not played together before they managed a convincing win. Well done to the team and particularly Stella who was the player of the match.

Girls' U13 Netball v Backwell, Thursday 2nd November: Sidcot 0-5 Backwell
This was a very frenetic match with both sides having an equal amount of possession. Sidcot were a little inconsistent in their play. Great interceptions were followed by poor passes so it was difficult for them to get in to a good rhythm and keep possession. The opposition were tall in defence so Sidcot struggled to pass the ball accurately to the shooters for them to be able to have a chance of scoring. Backwell did not dominate the play they just managed to score a few more goals when they had the opportunity. Individuals in the Sidcot team are improving each week so now we need to concentrate on shooting in practice to try and increase our goal scoring rate.

Boys' Reservoir Run
In Games this week we have been running Cheddar Reservoir in preparation for the upcoming Cross Country County Champs.
As well as some amazing performances from the boys overall we had a display of resilience and determination with everyone achieving personal bests. What a lovely way to spend the Games sessions this week:

What a fantastic week of Rugby at Sidcot!
- Tuesday: Year 7/8 played Bristol Cathedral School
- Wednesday: Year 5/6 played Clifton High School and the 1st team Played Bristol Cathedral School
- Thursday: Year 8/9 and Year 10 played Clifton College
Although each game was very hard with tough opposition the player came together as a team brilliantly. We saw real resilience and commitment with the boys playing hard for their team mates. The tries we scored were a result of great rugby, and a clear indication of teams and individuals developing every week.
In addition, on Thursday afternoon Year 11 Games, the squad players put together their own very technical and developmental training session where the boys demonstrated true commitment to the success of the team.
The evidence that we are developing a group of independent, committed and resilient sports men was seen everywhere this week.

Boys' U13 Rugby v Bristol Cathedral School, Tuesday 31st October: Sidcot 10-30 BCS
Sidcot lined up against one of the biggest Year 8 teams I have ever seen! The lads did an outstanding job to keep the score line respectable. Sidcot had the better of the open exchanges taking the lead through TomTom Lloyd, who also tackled manfully! Cathedral equalised before Theo Parker-Mills scored an outstanding solo try. Sidcot tackled their hearts out, but as time went by their fatigue showed and Cathedral were very able to run in five unanswered tries.
