U12 Rounders v Broadoak School, Thursday 4th May: Sidcot 10-16 Broadak
An exciting game of rounders for the U12s happened on Thursday afternoon in lovely sunshine. This was their first match but they played with confidence and co-operated well with each other when fielding. There were a few good strong strikes of the ball and several people managed to score whole rounders. Both teams showed a maturity in their knowledge of the rules and some of the finer tactics that can be employed in the game. Ella Hicks Hurley made two outstanding catches in deep field, which helped to reduce the opposition's ability to score.
The girls showed great determination and enthusiasm in the second innings to score as many points as possible from a small number of balls. We look forward to seeing this team develop as they they become more experienced through more practice sessions and further matches. A great start.

Girls' U13 Rounders v Broadoak School, Tuesday 4th May: Sidcot 15-8 Broadoak
This was a super opening game of the season for these girls – who are always really keen to do well.
Sidcot won the toss and chose to field first – and did so with confidence and aplomb! There was good rapport and communication between players and good movement to ensure that ‘back-up’ was in place during fielding manoevours. Sharp throwing to posts and good awareness enabled our girls to ‘stump out’ a number of Broadoak batters – and keep their score to a very low 3½ at the changeover.
Sidcot batted really well. Ana de la Torre and Sophia Parker-Mills hit good distance to achieve rounders and Ruby Owen used her left hand batting advantage to hit long into first deep.

The second innings saw more of the same, although Broadoak improved their batting and tightened up in the field. They could not, however, match the continued sharpness and team play of our girls who restricted their scorning opportunities. Issie Fawcett proved steady and reliable on the key second post, stopping ½.

Girls’ U15 Rounders v Broadoak School, Thursday 4th May: Sidcot 10½-15 Broadoak
What a great spectacle it was to see four Sidcot School teams entertaining visiting Broadoak on the sports field, bathed in warm spring sunshine and humming with eagerly excited girls, looking forward to their first match of the season.
Having won the toss, Sidcot elected to field and managed to contain the Broadoak batsmen with some fast bowling off the hand of Gracie Fletcher. The opposition found the pace of the ball difficult to judge and were unable to make good contact with the bat, only scoring the odd half rounder due to some weak decision making by Sidcot in the field.
At the break Sidcot found themselves trailing by just one rounder and at this stage were still very much in contention.
Unfortunately although the game was evenly balanced, Broadoak took advantage in the second innings of lapses of concentration in the Sidcot fielding and with their inability to throw accurate ball back in from deep, Broadoak were starting to score freely. Faced now with a deficit of nine and a half rounders, Sidcot were always going to struggle. However, the home team rallied and ran in several full rounders in quick succession, but just ran out of enough good balls to catch Broadoak’s total score of fifteen rounders.

Boys' U13/14 Cricket v St Katherine's School, Wednesday 3rd May: St Katherine's won by 3 balls

In fine spirits on a not so fine day, Sidcot U13/14s arrived at Lodway Cricket Club to play their rivals, St Kath's. They put us into bat and our openers, James Barber and Jacob Perry, did very well with the early onslaught. It was clear that they had three good players and the run rate for the first few overs was slow. The runs started coming, but we lost Perry to a miscommunication run-out, Barber remained cool. Barber scored 21 and was then caught out. Sidcot scored 53 off 12 overs for 2 wickets. Things looked good for Sidcot with an early wicket from our opening bowlers and a great team spirit in the field with committed focus from all. Despite taking 3 wickets and putting good pressure on the batsmen it came down to the last few balls. St Katherine's reached the target of 54 with 3 balls to spare. A close and a great game – well done lads.
