It could not have been a better afternoon for running when Sidcot arrived at Tockington Manor School for their annual visit to this prestigious event. Having walked the course and highlighted areas of tactical significance, the U12/13 girls lined up beside their counterparts to start the race.
The Sidcot team comprising of Freya King, Amber Spillane, Sarah Carr and Maddy Northcott all ran valiantly against some very tall and leggy individuals to finish in 7th place. This was a terrific performance, especially considering that three of the team members were at the younger end of their age group, which bodes well for next year’s event!
In the boys’ event, special mention must go to Joss Grove, who stepped in at the last minute to ensure that the U12/13 team had a full complement of runners. Jim Mitchell got the team off to a good start, followed by some determined running from Joss, Rufus Long and Toby Pratt. They all worked hard to maintain their position within the field of runners, finishing eventually a creditable 12th place.
Considering the calibre of runners present, all the Sidcot members can feel very proud of their achievements, as well as the way in which they conducted themselves during a long and tiring afternoon’s competition.
Many thanks to Sports Intern Conor Webb and Deputy Head Matt Williams for helping out and offering valuable advice and encouragement to the students, as well as to all those parents who travelled to support the Sidcot runners.
