Weston Hospicecare Colour Run
Weston Hospicecare is organising its third Colour Run on Weston Beach on Sunday, 24 April. This popular event is a fun way for people to raise much-needed funds for the Hospice, while having an enjoyable afternoon on the beach. Participants, dressed top to toe in white, or fancy dress, pass through five specially prepared colour ‘stations’ where they will be showered in red, green, yellow, orange and blue paint (actually, it’s only dyed cornflour and is perfectly safe). The event sees runners or, for those who like to stretch their legs at a more sedate pace, walkers, tackling a 5km course along Weston’s sandy beach.
All the care provided at Weston Hospicecare is free, and this event is an important fundraiser for the hospice, which needs to raise £3m each year to provide end of life care to local people. The hospice services include community nurse specialists who support people in their homes, day hospice, complementary therapies for patients, carers and families, an in-patient unit with 10 bedrooms and bereavement and chaplaincy services. Last year’s event raised over £49,000, an incredible amount which could cover the cost of running the Day Hospice for 10 weeks! Participants pay to register, but this only covers the costs of putting on the event and so everyone is encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as possible to support our services to the North Somerset community.
