Wonder
Third Form students enjoyed a heart-warming screening of their transition novel Wonder by Palacio at the Ritz last Wednesday. Here are some reviews and creative responses to the film and text.
[Screen Clipping] If I was to write a review about Wonder I would give it four and a half stars. I felt that the emotional side of the film and book really was an uncontrollable roller-coaster that put me and the audience in a spin of tears and smiles. I would highly recommend the Wonder series as it will lift the roof with your kids. The book and film have a lot of noticeable differences that you can distinguish. I also believe that the film lacked some of the drama that the book had but that can be reversed as the film was much more passionate over fighting and bullying scenes as it can help with the big picture of the story. One of the best quotes from both the book and film was said by Via (Izabela Vidovic) ‘my house is the universe and it revolves around the son not the daughter’. I would also say that all the background actors are equally talented in showmanship.
Verdict: Only a stone cold heart will be able to resist the book and films sincere and heartfelt charms.

A star has come onto the cinema the heart-winning movie of the year, based on the award winning book by R.J.Palico. In the film they transfer all the magic from the book to create an amazing movie! A beautiful script written by the directors Stephen Chbosky ,Steve Conrad and Jack Thorne make the perfect story. Auggie Pullman (Jacob Tremblay) has been home schooled, since he was born, by his mother Isabel (Julia Roberts) however she decides to send him to school to see the world. Auggie’s dad Nate (Owen Wilson) says “It’s like leading a lamb to the slaughter, and you know it. Worried about the reactions from the other children to August’s disfigurement.On Auggie’s first day Olivia (Izabela Vodvic ) his older sister whispers in his ear “You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out". He is regularly bullied by Julian (Bryce Gheisar ) but he makes friends with Summer (Millie Davis ) and Jack Will (Noah Jupe ). Whilst all this is going on shy Olivia is having a tough time at her new school, when her best friend Miranda starts rejecting her. Wonder sketches a deeply moving performance for the whole family filled with emotions and magic.

Dear Stephan Chbosky,
I am writing to you to give you my opinion of your new film, ‘Wonder,’ and your choices considering.
I would like to congratulate you on your award winning project. The actors you have selected were all amazing, and did an excellent job of recreating the novel. I really enjoyed how you put most of the characters’ views into perspective so well. My two favourite characters were Miranda and Auggie. I chose the actress Danielle Rose Russel, who played Miranda because she represented the character so well, for example when she had to tuck her mother in and take away the bottle that shows as a young carer; which was sad to see. However, Auggie (Jacob Tremblay) was a very trusting character to us. He represented him so well and I actually thought he was Auggie. He was an amazing actor.
I thought that some of the changes were somewhat detracting from the story line, as some of the special creations of the book’ Wonder’ like Justin’s and Summer’s narrative perspective were important to us as it helped us to picture their lives coming alive . You also cut the new puppy Bear. We were just wondering why you decided to make these cuts and changes. But we were also wondering if you spoke to the author, R J Palacio about the film? If so did he agree that these changes were the right thing to do?
My friend and I loved the tear- jerking performance. The bit that really got us was the Daisy dying, it got most of our year! We would just like to thank you with all of our hearts for that amazing experience, it was so good I would rate it 5 stars instead of four. Film of the year!
A present has seemed to have come early with the heart-warming movie of the year-wonder. Adapted in such a loving fashion, this five-star movie is based on the award-winning novel by R.J. Palacio that was made in 2012. It is elegantly set up in such an emotional way, that anyone who doesn’t weep inside will seem to have a heart of pure stone. The carefully selected actors from thousands of applications were truly incredible when speaking their lines on the screen which lead to everyone in the theatre applauding loudly as the two hour movie ended.
One of the most-loved characters who was not necessarily one of the most famous in it was Nate Pullman (Owen Wilson) who was Auggie’s highly concerned father but also a hilarious and funny dad that brought a bit of laughter to some of the humourless bits in the show. But by far the most loved character is Auggie Pullman (Jacob Tremblay) who is a ten-year old boy with a rare genetic facial disorder starts his new life at a school called Beecher prep in America but doesn’t get off to the best start possible. He starts getting bullied by a boy named Julian but makes friends along the way too in this unforgettable journey. He has some fallouts and has some fights, but in this magical story, it shows that friendship can change the world to someone.
