We were delighted that Sarah Benwell agreed to visit Sidcot on World Book Day. Her debut book, The Last Leaves Falling, was launched last month. Sarah l led a lunchtime talk; and creative writing workshop with Lower Fifth English classes. Sarah’s lunchtime talk was about writing challenging fiction; and broadened into a discussion of banned books and censorship. Max Moody commented: “I’m surprised and shocked that books could be banned. It’s a form of discrimination.” The talk was a great lead in to the workshop exploring how to write emotional or difficult subjects.
The 2015 Henrietta Boase writing competition linked to the award for debut novels has just been launched. Any budding authors aged under 19 can enter.
The competition closing date is 25 April. Good luck and have fun writing.
