Exam Board: Leiths
A practical GCSE-style course written and run by Leiths and accredited by the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH). A modern culinary course which will prepare students in Years 10 and 11 for a valuable industry-recognised qualification. The course can also contribute to progression in the Sixth Form at Sidcot. Leiths can also help to secure a wide range of weekend and holiday job opportunities in the restaurant and hospitality sector.
What will I be studying?
The core food preparation skills are taught week by week through a wide variety of seasonal recipes. Students cook every week and quickly gain a thorough working knowledge of a wide range of ingredients and recipes.
Is there anything else I need to know about this subject course?
Example dishes that students will cook include soy glazed salmon, crispy chicken with Dijon mustard sauce, and banana and Rolo melting middle cakes. Leiths involves additional course/equipment fees, which can be discussed with faculty staff.
How will I be assessed?
The final grade of Pass (55-69%), Merit (70-84%) or Distinction (85%) is awarded at the end of the course after two 2-hour practical cooking assessments, an online food hygiene and allergen exam and a 20-question theory test.
